Book Choice for March: The Turn of the Screw
by Henry James

"The Turn of the Screw" is an intense psychological tale of terror. It begins in an old house on Christmas Eve. It is the story of a Governess who comes to live with and take care of two young children. The Governess loves her new position in charge of the young children, however she is soon disturbed when she begins to see ghosts.

As I lay dying

The Monday evening book group had our annual "challenge" book this month in Faulkner's As I lay dying.  We had a good turnout of those who had managed to read through Faulkner's sometimes difficult prose and we were left in admiration of his skill as a writer and his ability to portray the trials and tribulations of the Bundren family.  We were impressed by the poetry in Faulkner's language even as he depicted the lowest levels of society in his fictional Mississippi county.  All in all a tough read but a worthwhile one.
